Summary, etc. Si la demografía es una ciencia social, ¿cuáles son las herramientas y fuentes de análisis que utiliza? ¿Cuáles de ellas se han aplicado al caso colombiano, y qué nuevo conocimiento aporta para los interesados en el país? Todas estas preguntas tienen respuesta en este libro: las herramientas empleadas por la demografía son tan variadas como las ciencias sociales con las que colabora. Solo que siempre mantiene una fuerte fundamentación matemática y estadística, pues es desde ellas que la demografía, como ciencia, nació. Este libro presenta un abanico de posibilidades de las aplicaciones en mortalidad y fecundidad general, que luego se reflejan en proyecciones de población y su efecto fiscal en el sistema pen823060sional, la identificación de desventajas socioeconómicas de minorías étnicas, las inequidades sociales, la mortalidad materna, la violencia doméstica y las transiciones sociodemográficas de los adolescentes hacia la adultez. Los resultados son tanto prácticos como inesperados para el caso colombiano, que nunca deja de sorprender por sus atípicos fenómenos demográficos.
