En este estudio se analiza la explotación del ónix mármol en el sitio conocido como "El Mármol", Baja California, desde el descubrimiento de este enorme yacimiento en 1890, hasta 1958, cuando se cerró la cantera. Se hace hincapié, en particular, en las actividades de la empresa New Pedrara Mexican Onyx Company, formada en 1892, y de sus sucesoras, particularmente la Southwest Onyx and Marble Company, establecida en 1921. Se examinan los factores que condujeron al auge de este negocio durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX, así como las razones de su decadencia y extinción a finales de la década de 1950. |
